Preamam (Telugu) Review

Premam "The Told Story" ( In a Different Way)

Premam movie director: Chandoo Mondeti
Premam movie cast: Naga Chaitanya, Shruti Haasan, Aravind Krishna, Madonna Sebastian, Anupama Parameswaran

Story line : Creating a single love story is a humongous task, now imagine presenting three love stories in a film giving each character an important time in the movie and beautifully orchestrating
the entire crew and film together, well that is premam for you.

A boy falls in love with a girl in school, misses her. Falls in love again with a teacher in college, misses her too. And falls in love again but gets her! This is what the movie tries to say with its apt tagline: "Love stories end, feelings don’t".

Premam is the Telugu remake of the Malayalam film by the same name. But compare the two and the Naga Chaitanya and Chandoo Mondeti's vehicle falls short.

From Nivin Pauly folding lungi to the chemistry between George and Malar in Malayalam, the locale and subtlety could not be completely achieved by Vikram (Naga Chaitanya) and Sitara (Shruti Haasan) in the Telugu film. The cinematography and the attention to detail also fail to capture the natural flair of the Original.

However, minor changes in the script are great, especially the way Vikram, While Pauly excelled when he portrayed George in the first and second love story in the Malayalam version, Chaitanya pumps up the flavour in the third story where he plays it as an urbane  chocolate boy and a Chef wow drives a Harley Davidson to work.. However, the idea that the director worked on this trendy outlook and tweaked the script to connect with the Telugu audience.
Chaitanya and Shruti aren’t able to flow naturally with the script.
While Naga was able to compensate his first 30mins of overdrive with the next two stories but Shruti was underutilized in the movie her expressions oscillate between a straight face and an occasional grin. The other two ladies, Madonna and Anupama, know exactly what to do in the film and they complete the story.

However this Premam has more comic relief from Srinivas Reddy, Praveen and Brahmaji. Lastly, the common cameo show from Venkatesh and Nagarjuna make the crowd’s go wild in the theaters, a special mention to Venkatesh sir his role was outstanding with great dialogue and limited time, thus actually was more impressive than the original premam.

If you have watched the original premam, this one will make you a little nostalgic and a little vague. Especially, after listening to the similar background score and a few songs with same music.

Casting :- 3/5
Screenplay :- 3.5/5
Story:- 3.5/5
Cinematography :-3.5/5
Dialogue : - 3/5
Final Verdict :- 3.3/5

Overall a great weekend film and a good watch.. for those with no expectation it actually works well, but please try to see the Malayalam version at least once.
